Sometimes I like
to start my AA or NA talks with, "HelloI'm the greatest
Hal there ever was!"
Does that sound conceited? Egocentric? As Muhammad Ali, the original
"Greatest," used to say, "It ain't bragging if
you can do it!"
And I can prove I'm the greatest Hal there ever was, simply because
I'm the only one there ever was. In fact, I'm the only one who
ever will be just like me.
So, this package that I arrived in is all I've got to work with.
Good or bad, rich or poor, success or failure, what I am at any
point in time is the best Hal in existence at that time.
It's up to me. Nobody else. I can't be A.J. Foyt. I probably
wouldn't even be a second-rate Paul Newman. I'd never try to
be a Sugar Ray Leonard. But I'm the world's leading authority
on Hal A.
How about you? Who are you? Are you trying to be someone you
aren't? Are you even being someone you don't like? Whose fault
is that? Why don't you relax and enjoy being what you are: someone
unique for all time in all the universe.
Nobody else
knows how.
